Nia and Netty

Nia and her Welsh filly foal Netty

This winter, we took in two mares with their foals at foot from two separate welfare cases.

Nia was the first mare to arrive, with her beautiful two month old Welsh filly foal Netty. They were part of a large multi-agency rescue and arrived at our Beech Trees Veterinary and Welfare Centre on the 8th November.

On arrival, unhandled Nia was nervous. But thanks to the care and dedication of her groom Kayleigh, Nia is growing in confidence. She now trusts Kayleigh and is more open to explore new interactions.

While Netty, who settled in quickly, is playful and full of energy. Our grooms love watching her run in the field and interacting with her dam and our other young foal Chandler.

Netty the foal

Foals learn through play, and it is a huge part of their development, so we were happy to introduce Netty to Chandler, who was rescued from a separate welfare case. They became great friends and spent their day exploring, living as naturally as possible alongside their dams. Chandler has since been rehomed and we will tell you more about his story soon.
