Marmite

Marmite

Rehome Classification: Companion

Age: 14

Breed: Dartmoor Hill Pony

Height: 12hh

Gender: Gelding

Colour/Markings: Spotted

Personality
Marmite is a sweet natured boy who is friendly towards humans and other equines. He is very keen to be friends with his companions and is laid back within a herd. Marmite also shows that he enjoys one to one time with his handler and being groomed.

Health and Training

Health Status:

Marmite has been diagnosed with Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS). He was extremely overweight, and by managing his grazing alongside exercise he has lost a significant amount of weight. As a result he no longer needs medication, but this will need monitoring to ensure he does not become overweight again. Marmite has cataract and pigment deposits over the centre of the pupil of his left eye.

Training Level:

Marmite has been having clicker training for syringes. He is not confident with them, but this training has been really positive. He is good for the farrier.

Marmite's Past

Marmite came to us in 2018 when we merged with another equine rescue charity. We don’t have any details of his past before that time.

Marmite's Future

Rehoming Fee: £50

Marmite needs a confident and knowledgeable handler who can competently manage his EMS through his diet, environment and exercise. His handler will also need to understand any training needs he requires, which we will provide support for.

Marmite can be strong to handle and, at times, may be nervous due to his vision issues so he will need an experienced handler who is able to manage this. He is happy to be left in the stable whist other equines are working, making him an ideal companion pony.

Our Rehoming Advisors are available to help every day of the year. We will work to support you and Marmite as he settles in his new home and can offer training and advice as needed.

Become a Sanctuary at Home Carer

To help you become a Sanctuary at Home Carer, we have a dedicated team managing our scheme and their job is to help find the right equine for you and then support you throughout your rehoming experience.

Our Pathways

We have three rehoming pathways within our Sanctuary at Home scheme. These are:

Prime Pastures

This scheme enables us to rehome horses and ponies with long-term medical conditions that are manageable. You'll be required to help support their condition with regular monitoring and we contribute towards the costs of their veterinary treatments.

Foster

Working alongside us to socialise and train young or rideable horses for future work in our education programmes. You'll help provide a home setting for these horses to mature before returning to the Sanctuary for further assessment. We work closely with you to keep up to date records of their training, achievements, milestones, setbacks and all aspects of their care.

Standard

Means you help provide a sanctuary at home for as many years as you can for a horse or pony from our charity on a loan basis.
