Blackjack

Blackjack

Available

Rehome Classification: Companion

Age: 21

Breed: Moorland

Height: 12.2hh

Gender: Gelding

Colour/Markings: Black

Personality
Blackjack is a gentle natured pony who needs a calm and confident handler to bring out the best in him. He can be a little anxious, especially around new people or in new environments, so he will need a committed carer who will give him regular confidence-boosting interactions. He has really blossomed and is now more confident with the vet and farrier.

Health and Training

Health Status:

Blackjack has no ongoing health conditions and no ongoing medications.

Training Level:

He has been having regular training sessions to build his confidence for daily handling. This covers several different areas such as headcollar catching, needle training, grooming and feet lifting – all done using positive re-enforcement training methods.

Blackjack's Past

Blackjack came to us as part of a merger with another charity in 2018. He has been in a Sanctuary at Home, but sadly needed to return.

Blackjack's Future

Rehoming Fee: £50

Blackjack would thrive in a quieter environment. Being a smaller native equine, he will need careful management to avoid excessive weight gain. He has enjoyed gentle walks and loves having enrichment to explore both in the field and when stabled.

Blackjack would suit a calm, knowledgeable handler who is dedicated to bonding with him so that he can flourish in his new home.

He has been turned out 24/7 and is happy to come in and be stabled when necessary. He currently lives with a gelding and has neighboured mares with no issues. He has been settled in the stable when his companions leave him, making him the ideal companion.

Our Rehoming Advisors are available to help every day of the year. We will work to support you and Blackjack as he settles in his new home and can offer training and advice as needed.

Become a Sanctuary at Home Carer

To help you become a Sanctuary at Home Carer, we have a dedicated team managing our scheme and their job is to help find the right equine for you and then support you throughout your rehoming experience.

Our Pathways

We have three rehoming pathways within our Sanctuary at Home scheme. These are:

Prime Pastures

This scheme enables us to rehome horses and ponies with long-term medical conditions that are manageable. You'll be required to help support their condition with regular monitoring and we contribute towards the costs of their veterinary treatments.

Foster

Working alongside us to socialise and train young or rideable horses for future work in our education programmes. You'll help provide a home setting for these horses to mature before returning to the Sanctuary for further assessment. We work closely with you to keep up to date records of their training, achievements, milestones, setbacks and all aspects of their care.

Standard

Means you help provide a sanctuary at home for as many years as you can for a horse or pony from our charity on a loan basis.
