Will you help this Christmas?
Chesney, Seren and Pinky were frightened and unloved.
At this time of year, we’re grateful that many of the horses and ponies we’ve rescued are settled in loving loan homes. However, abuse and neglect have lifelong consequences, and some horses will never be rehomed. These horses, with complex needs, will stay with us at our peaceful sanctuaries for the rest of their lives.
Because of your support, we can be there for them this Christmas, and for many more to come.
These three ponies each have their own unique story, but what they have in common is that the trauma they suffered before they were rescued has stayed with them. Chesney was once a circus pony who jumped through hoops of fire. Her traumatic past has made her highly anxious and she is easily frightened by sudden movements or noises. Seren was orphaned at one day old. She has a degenerative eye condition and is losing her sight. Pinky was rescued from desperate conditions on Bodmin’s East Moor. He is afraid of lead ropes and has been known to bolt when panicked.
Help us help them with a Christmas gift today
A lifetime of individual care takes time, resources and funds. It costs us on average £10,265 to care for one horse, for one year. With 139 horses currently living across our four sanctuaries expenses are high. Every horse or pony we rescue will receive the care, veterinary treatment and behavioural support they need to have a brighter future. It is important to make life worth living for these horses who were once frightened and unloved.

Chesney
Chesney came into our care in 2018. Very little is known about her past, however we were told at the time that she was once a circus pony who jumped through hoops of fire. This indicates a traumatic history. Chesney is an anxious pony who is frightened by sudden movements or noises. In particular, she doesn’t like anything to be close behind her. For these reasons Chesney will never be rehomed. She will remain with us for the rest of her life and receive the specialist care she needs.
Seren
Seren arrived with us as an orphan at just one day old in 2014. She was part of a large welfare case that resulted in us taking in 31 horses over several months. Seren was in desperate need of milk, so we bottle fed her with use of a feeding rack. She received round-the-clock care. Sadly, due to her difficult start in life and eyesight issues, she developed some behavioural problems. Seren is losing her sight. Due to this, she will stay in our lifelong care and will never be rehomed.
Pinky
Pinky was rescued from Bodmin’s East Moor in 2017. It was a large-scale multi agency rescue as conditions on the moors had become desperate. On arrival he was extremely frightened and nervous. Pinky has ongoing behavioural issues stemming from this early trauma in his life. He is afraid of lead ropes and headcollars and has been known to bolt. Once he injured himself on fencing whilst bolting. This means he will stay in our care for the rest of his life where we can help him to feel calm and safe.
