Xera

Available

Rehome Classification: Companion

Age: 17

Breed: Dartmoor Hill Pony

Height: 12.1hh

Gender: Mare

Colour/Markings: Leopard Spot

Personality
Xera is a sweet, kind natured pony who prefers a calm and confident approach to her handling. She is intelligent and quick to pick up what is being asked of her. She is happy to go for walks in hand. Xera shows us that she really enjoys one-to-one time with her handler. She enjoys a groom and is happy to have her legs and feet washed when needed. She is also good for the vet and farrier. When settled in a new home, she has been good to leave in the stable by herself, making her the ideal companion pony.

Health and Training

Health Status:

Xera has a mild forelimb lameness which is managed by being shod in front. She is not on any medications. She will need her weight managing to avoid obesity and laminitis.

Training Level:

Xera has been having syringe training to improve her confidence with them. She is happy with a variety of different syringes and engages well with her training. She is now at maintenance level to maintain her confidence going forward. Support and training can be given to her carer, to help Xera with this.

Xera's Past

Xera came to the Sanctuary as part of our 2018 merger with another charity.

Xera's Future

Rehoming Fee: £50

Xera would benefit from living on a quiet yard with equine companions with similar needs to her. She currently lives with mares and has geldings for neighbours.

Xera currently lives out 24/7 and is also happy to come in and be stabled when needed. She enjoys time with her handler and would be best suited to a calm and knowledgeable carer.

Our Rehoming Advisors are available to help every day of the year. We will work to support you and Xera as she settles in her new home and can offer training and advice as needed.

Become a Sanctuary at Home Carer

To help you become a Sanctuary at Home Carer, we have a dedicated team managing our scheme and their job is to help find the right equine for you and then support you throughout your rehoming experience.

Our Pathways

We have three rehoming pathways within our Sanctuary at Home scheme. These are:

Prime Pastures

This scheme enables us to rehome horses and ponies with long-term medical conditions that are manageable. You'll be required to help support their condition with regular monitoring and we contribute towards the costs of their veterinary treatments.

Foster

Working alongside us to socialise and train young or rideable horses for future work in our education programmes. You'll help provide a home setting for these horses to mature before returning to the Sanctuary for further assessment. We work closely with you to keep up to date records of their training, achievements, milestones, setbacks and all aspects of their care.

Standard

Means you help provide a sanctuary at home for as many years as you can for a horse or pony from our charity on a loan basis.
