Missy

Missy

Available

Rehome Classification: Companion

Age: 21 Years

Breed: Moorland

Height: 13hh

Gender: Mare

Colour/Markings: Grey

Personality
Missy is a sweet girl who is very fond of time with her handler. She enjoys having a calm and trusting partnership and engaging in training which builds her confidence. We feel that Missy loves being able to be out in the field and certainly makes the most of any mud when she can. She is also happy to be stabled when needed, as long as she can see her friends. She is calm for the farrier and is shod in front due to previous laminitis. Missy can be quite particular about her friends, so finding equines she gets along with well is very important. She generally gets on well with mares who are quieter in nature. She has separation anxiety in the stable and for this reason she needs a companion at all times. Missy enjoys a clip and a groom. She responds really well to cuddles and scratches.

Health and Training

Health Status:

Missy came back to the sanctuary from a loan home after having two separate bouts of laminitis. She has recovered well, and she is shod with standard shoes in front. She lives a normal life on restricted grass turnout and adlib hay. Missy has PPID, also known as equine Cushing’s. She is currently on half a tablet of Prascend for this daily, and this manages her condition well. She will need on-going testing to monitor her health. Missy is being rehomed on our Prime Pastures scheme where we can contribute towards the cost of her medication and shoes.

Training Level:

Missy is calm with female vets but can be anxious with around male vets. She has a fear of needles, but clicker training is helping to ensure her anxiety is kept to a minimum. We can provide training and support for this in her new home.

Missy's Past

Missy came into our care in 2018 when we merged with another charity.

Missy's Future

Rehoming Fee: Not applicable.

Missy would be best suited to a quieter home with a knowledgeable and experienced carer who can dedicate time and care to managing her medical needs. Missy always requires a companion due to separation anxiety and would get on well with an equine with similar needs to her. A carer with an interest in positive reinforcement training would be perfect for Missy to continue building her confidence with vet visits.

Our Rehoming Advisors are available to help every day of the year. We will work to support you and Missy as she settles into her new home and can offer training and advice as needed.

Become a Sanctuary at Home Carer

To help you become a Sanctuary at Home Carer, we have a dedicated team managing our scheme and their job is to help find the right equine for you and then support you throughout your rehoming experience.

Our Pathways

We have three rehoming pathways within our Sanctuary at Home scheme. These are:

Prime Pastures

This scheme enables us to rehome horses and ponies with long-term medical conditions that are manageable. You'll be required to help support their condition with regular monitoring and we contribute towards the costs of their veterinary treatments.

Foster

Working alongside us to socialise and train young or rideable horses for future work in our education programmes. You'll help provide a home setting for these horses to mature before returning to the Sanctuary for further assessment. We work closely with you to keep up to date records of their training, achievements, milestones, setbacks and all aspects of their care.

Standard

Means you help provide a sanctuary at home for as many years as you can for a horse or pony from our charity on a loan basis.
