Alan is a confident pony who is generally very good at being handled once he has settled and got to know his new handler and you understand the way he prefers to have things done, he enjoys the company of people and going for regular walks out on the lanes. He enjoys being kept busy and experiencing new things. He can live with both mares, geldings and youngsters

Health and Training

Health Status:

Alan does wear a full set of shoes, due to having tender soles. This would need to continue in his new home and financial support is available to help towards this. He will need to have his weight monitored and his grazing restricted to avoid obesity and laminitis

Training Level:

Alan will stand well for the farrier if a hay net is provided. He is good for the vet and has been undergoing regular training which would need to be continued in his new home

Alan's Past

Alan came to us in 2018 from another equine charity.

Alan's Future

Rehoming Fee: £50

Alan sometimes finds his normal day-to-day care routine a little challenging and we sense he struggles to communicate his needs when this happens. Ideally, his new carer would benefit from getting to know him while he’s still living in our Yelverton Sanctuary before he moves to his new home.

Alan is respectful of electric fencing. He is not able to be left alone in either a stable or field so will need a permanent equine companion. He would benefit from being in a one-to-one adult-only home. He will need to be given additional time and patience to settle in, with his training to be continued with his new carer.

Our Rehoming Advisors are available to help every day of the year. We will work to support you and Alan as he settles in his new home and can offer training and advice as needed.

Become a Sanctuary at Home Carer

To help you become a Sanctuary at Home Carer, we have a dedicated team managing our scheme and their job is to help find the right equine for you and then support you throughout your rehoming experience.

Our Pathways

We have three rehoming pathways within our Sanctuary at Home scheme. These are:

Prime Pastures

This scheme enables us to rehome horses and ponies with long-term medical conditions that are manageable. You'll be required to help support their condition with regular monitoring and we contribute towards the costs of their veterinary treatments.

Foster

Working alongside us to socialise and train young or rideable horses for future work in our education programmes. You'll help provide a home setting for these horses to mature before returning to the Sanctuary for further assessment. We work closely with you to keep up to date records of their training, achievements, milestones, setbacks and all aspects of their care.

Standard

Means you help provide a sanctuary at home for as many years as you can for a horse or pony from our charity on a loan basis.
