Allow us to introduce our newest rescue…Arty!

This handsome 12 year old piebald Cob was found by the RSPCA, abandoned in Somerset with a headcollar growing painfully into his skin. After veterinary treatment, Arty needed a permanent home with specialist care.

We’ll continue sharing regular updates and films about him over the coming weeks.

Arty’s rescue

Just a few months ago, Arty’s life was very different. He was found abandoned in Somerset with a mare. Arty was badly overweight and his headcollar had grown deeply into his skin.

Our colleagues at the RSPCA brought Arty to safety and made sure he received the immediate care he needed. They also began the process of controlling Arty’s diet and testing his liver. Obesity is a major health risk in equines, which can lead to lameness and joint issues, laminitis, hoof conditions, heart and respiratory problems and metabolic disorders.

As Arty needed continued care and a permanent home, we were able to offer him sanctuary for life and he’s continuing his recovery at our Honeysuckle Sanctuary, enjoying the beautiful fields and wildlife. This was all possible because of supporters like you.

We feel it’s important for horses and ponies to live as naturally as possible, so most stay in field herds at our peaceful sanctuary sites. Herd animals need company, but because we must make sure Arty is free of infections like strangles, he’ll need to remain in quarantine until he’s fully cleared. He can still see other ponies in nearby fields, and we will introduce him to new companions when he’s ready.

Arty seemed to settle quickly and appears to be relishing his new freedom.

Be part of Arty’s recovery journey

Arty’s story reminds us how vital your help is. Without the generosity of our supporters, we wouldn’t be able to provide sanctuary for ponies like Arty when they need us most. While we’re able to care for the most urgent cases, the reality is that we can only continue this life-changing work with your kindness.

Please consider giving a donation today, so that we can provide lifelong sanctuary to Arty and other injured and abandoned horses and ponies.
