Lola has come a long way since her arrival to our Mare and Foal Sanctuary family. She is now thriving at our Coombe Park Sanctuary, where she spends her days alongside our other ponies and horses.
Lola was starving when we rescued her, we didn’t know if she would survive. She was covered in colourful paint having been used for a children’s party.
Our devoted Sanctuary Care team set to work immediately to make Lola more comfortable. Over the next few weeks and months, she underwent a remarkable transformation. She gained weight slowly and safely. Her sweet nature began to shine.
After 14 months recovering with us at the sanctuary, having fully regained their health, nine of the horses including Kahlo were rehomed to The Horse Trust due to our full capacity.

Today, Lola is thriving. Thanks to the dedicated care she has received at our Sanctuary, she has made an incredible recovery and will soon be ready to begin the next chapter ofher life in a loving sanctuary at home. Her transformation has been extraordinary, not just physically, but emotionally too. Looking at Lola today, it’s hard to believe she is the same little pony who once arrived fighting for her life.
Currently, Lola is undergoing treatment for Equine Asthma, which is triggered yearly by environmental factors like pollen. As Lola has Equine Metabolic Syndrome, she cannot have oral steroids to reduce lung inflammation which could lead to her developing laminitis. Instead, the vets have prescribed her inhalers, which Lola had to undergo training to get used to. The inhaler has a mouthpiece that covers one nostril so it can be easily taken by Lola.
Ultimately, if we had not stepped in and instigated a rescue, these horses and ponies would have continued to suffer. With your support, lives were saved. It has been wonderful to discover the personality of each horse and pony as they have healed.
