From Fear to Friendship: Chesney’s Journey of Healing
Many of the horses and ponies we care for have endured neglect, abuse or trauma that leaves lasting physical and emotional scars. While they are finally safe, healing can take months or even years, requiring specialist veterinary treatment, patient rehabilitation and compassionate care every single day.
Lola’s incredible transformation
Lola has come a long way since her arrival to our Mare and Foal Sanctuary family. She is now thriving at our Coombe Park Sanctuary, where she spends her days alongside our other ponies and horses.
Meet our Icelandic herd
When concerns were raised by members of the public, our field officers took immediate action. They found a large number of semi feral Icelandic horses across several sites in Devon. There was unmanaged breeding, with pregnant mares living alongside fighting colts and stallions. Some were found with life-threatening injuries.
Mavis and Flint
A curious young horse with a sensitive soul, still learning that the world is a safe place. She can feel a little anxious at times, but with calm, one-to-one attention, her gentle and sweet nature, reveals itself, especially if you come prepared with nuggets or sticky weed!
Viktor and Magnus – From shy and unsure…
When Viktor and Magnus first arrived, this four-year-old Icelandic colt found the world a little overwhelming. New people, new surroundings, it all felt uncertain. But with patient handling and gentle encouragement, Viktor and Magnus have been steadily building his confidence day by day.
Marilyn and Wurzel
If confidence had a personality… it would be Wurzel Arriving at the Sanctuary at just a few weeks old, Wurzel didn’t take long to make himself known, especially alongside his best friend, Flint.
Candy’s Lifelong Love of Horses
Candy has been volunteering with us for two years. She started on the yard, then joined the Education Team at Coombe Park.
Granny
Granny was rescued as part of last year’s 15-month multi-agency operation to save 70beautiful Icelandic horses and foals. She was initially treated and cared for at an RSPCA holding base.
Solar
Grooms at the Sanctuary had a welcome surprise upon their arrival to work when rescue pony Sandy unexpectedly gave birth to a healthy colt foal.
