Yori

Yori

Available

Rehome Classification: Companion

Age: 14

Breed: Dartmoor Hill Pony

Height: 12.2h

Gender: Mare

Colour/Markings: Bay

Personality
Yori has a nice nature and is lovely to spend time with. We feel she will flourish from the one-to-one attention she can get from living with a Sanctuary at Home carer. Yori enjoys being groomed and having human interactions.

Health and Training

Health Status:

ori does have sweet itch, an allergic reaction to the saliva of midges. This is managed with lotions and her rugs, which will come with her to her new home. She would not be suited to lush, rich grazing. Poorer, restricted grazing would help to manage her weight as she is a native breed that can easily put on weight. Yori has had successful sarcoid treatment in the past. This treatment has caused scarring on the abdomen and in front of her stifle.

Training Level:

Yori is good to catch and good with the farrier. Yori can become unsettled with injections and has been trained using positive reinforcement which has been extremely successful. This positive training would need to be continued by her carer, and we are able to provide extra training and support for this. Yori was ridden for many years but can no longer be ridden.

Yori's Past

Yori came to the Sanctuary as a youngster, when her owner needed to relinquish Yori’s herd. She was feral on arrival but soon started to enjoy human contact.

Yori's Future

Rehoming Fee: 50

Ideally, Yori would prefer to live on a flatter paddock. She loves to explore any enrichment she is offered. She would need to have her weight watched and her grazing restricted to avoid obesity. Her ideal home would be with another mare with similar requirements.

Our Rehoming Advisors are available to help every day of the year. We will work to support you and Yori as she settles in her new home and can offer training and advice as needed.

Become a Sanctuary at Home Carer

To help you become a Sanctuary at Home Carer, we have a dedicated team managing our scheme and their job is to help find the right equine for you and then support you throughout your rehoming experience.

Our Pathways

We have three rehoming pathways within our Sanctuary at Home scheme. These are:

Prime Pastures

This scheme enables us to rehome horses and ponies with long-term medical conditions that are manageable. You'll be required to help support their condition with regular monitoring and we contribute towards the costs of their veterinary treatments.

Foster

Working alongside us to socialise and train young or rideable horses for future work in our education programmes. You'll help provide a home setting for these horses to mature before returning to the Sanctuary for further assessment. We work closely with you to keep up to date records of their training, achievements, milestones, setbacks and all aspects of their care.

Standard

Means you help provide a sanctuary at home for as many years as you can for a horse or pony from our charity on a loan basis.
