Yori
Rehome Classification: Companion
Age: 15 years
Breed: Dartmoor Hill Pony
Height: 12.2hh
Gender: Mare
Colour/Markings: Bay
Personality
Yori is a very loving and inquisitive pony who thrives on human connection. A true ‘people pony’, she adores attention and will quite happily stand for as long as you like for scratches and grooming. She has a calm, sensible nature, is a joy to handle and stays relaxed even when she meets light traffic on her walks.
Her curious outlook means she learns quickly and enjoys exploring new places. Whether she is out on a quiet adventure or socialising in the field with mares, geldings and youngsters, Yori’s gentle manner makes her a pleasure to have on any yard.
Health and Training
Health Status:
Yori has sweet itch, which is managed with rugs and fly masks throughout the year, along with regular lotion and baths to keep her comfortable. She needs restricted grazing and is currently on soaked hay to support her weight management. Yori has previously had colic surgery and has also received treatment for sarcoids.
Training Level:
Yori has ongoing training to support her with injections, and regular handling sessions around her ears, which is where her sweet itch affects her most.
Yori's Past
Yori was signed over to the Sanctuary in 2011 when her owner could no longer care for her.
Yori's Future
Rehoming Fee: £100
Yori is looking for a committed home where she can enjoy the attention, enrichment and steady routine she thrives on. She would make a lovely addition to the right yard, as long as her new home can support her ongoing training and health needs.
Because of her sweet itch and the need to manage her weight, Yori needs a proactive care plan with regular exercise and a carefully controlled diet. She is a very rewarding pony who does best with a close, one‑to‑one bond and consistent handling.
Yori is happy to stable on her own with suitable forage and enrichment. She respects electric fencing when it is on, which makes her an ideal companion pony.
Yori is currently based at our Yelverton site and her potential rehomer will need to visit twice.
Our Rehoming Advisors are available to help every day of the year. We will work to support you and Yori as she settles in his new home and can offer training and advice as needed.
