Rain
Rehome Classification: Companion
Age: 10 years
Breed: Native
Height: 12.1 hh
Gender: Mare
Colour/Markings: Skewbald
Personality
Personality: Rain is a sweet, gentle mare who loves people. She can find changes in her companions difficult, so she will need a consistent herd or companion arrangement in her new home. Generally quiet and calm, Rain can be a little anxious and worried by new experiences (for example clippers or a hosepipe), but she usually relaxes quickly with calm reassurance from an experienced handler. She is straightforward to handle for the vet and farrier, and easy to manage in her day-to-day care.
Health and Training
Health Status:
Rain is currently on Metformin, an insulin regulation medication for Equine Metabolic syndrome. This will need monitoring as well as careful management of her grazing and weight. Rain has had surgery on a ligament, and she can no longer be ridden.
Training Level:
Rain has been having positive reinforcement training to build her confidence around routine care, such as taking wormers. This approach will need to be continued in her new home, and training and support will be provided to help with this.
Rain's Past
Rain came into Sanctuary in 2017 when her owner could no longer care for her.
Rain's Future
Rehoming Fee: £50
Rain is looking for a home with someone experienced in managing the weight of native ponies. Ideally, she would live with one other pony with similar management needs.
She enjoys in-hand walks, which will help her maintain a healthy body condition, but she is not confident in traffic. A home with quiet lanes or access to safe off-road routes would therefore suit her best.
Prospective carers will need to meet Rain at least twice. She is currently based at our Upcott Park sanctuary, near Holsworthy.
Our Rehoming Advisors are available to help every day of the year. We will work to support you and Rain as she settles in her new home and can offer training and advice as needed.
