Pixie

Pixie

Available

Rehome Classification: Companion

Age: 13 years

Breed: Bodmin Hill Pony

Height: 12hh

Gender: Mare

Colour/Markings: Grey

Personality
Pixie is a well-mannered mare who enjoys human company and is a pleasure to be around. She’s easy to catch, groom, and pick out her feet, and she stands patiently for the farrier. She has been walked out in hand, experienced traffic, and has been introduced to basic horse agility equipment in an arena setting, making her well-rounded and confident. She’s not comfortable with pressure on her headcollar, so we’re looking for someone with the time and patience to get to know her and work with her in the calm, consistent way she prefers.

Health and Training

Health Status:

Pixie has no known health conditions. Being a native pony, she will need her grazing and weight monitoring to avoid becoming overweight.

Training Level:

Pixie has been trained using positive reinforcement methods and engages well in her training sessions. We have been working on her confidence with loading into lorries and trailers and with the vet for injections. Her new carer would need to be happy to continue with this, and we can provide training and support.

Pixie's Past

Pixie arrived at the Sanctuary as part of multi-agency operation to reduce the number of ponies on Bodmin moor in 2016.

Pixie's Future

Rehoming Fee: £150

Pixie would be able to live out and would be happy stabled part of the time, if required.

She’s a lovely pony with a positive attitude towards everything. She’s relaxed when left alone in the stable, making her an ideal companion, though she would need time to build this confidence in a new environment. She is also respectful of electric fencing.

Our Rehoming Advisors are available to help every day of the year. We will work to support you and Pixie as she settles in her new home and can offer training and advice as needed.

Become a Sanctuary at Home Carer

To help you become a Sanctuary at Home Carer, we have a dedicated team managing our scheme and their job is to help find the right equine for you and then support you throughout your rehoming experience.

Our Pathways

We have three rehoming pathways within our Sanctuary at Home scheme. These are:

Prime Pastures

This scheme enables us to rehome horses and ponies with long-term medical conditions that are manageable. You'll be required to help support their condition with regular monitoring and we contribute towards the costs of their veterinary treatments.

Foster

Working alongside us to socialise and train young or rideable horses for future work in our education programmes. You'll help provide a home setting for these horses to mature before returning to the Sanctuary for further assessment. We work closely with you to keep up to date records of their training, achievements, milestones, setbacks and all aspects of their care.

Standard

Means you help provide a sanctuary at home for as many years as you can for a horse or pony from our charity on a loan basis.
