Nipper

Nipper

Rehome Classification: Companion

Age: 14

Breed: Moorland Pony

Height: 10.2hh

Gender: Gelding

Colour/Markings: Black

Personality
Nipper is gentle, laid back and confident. He likes to mutually groom with his equine companions, gets on well with other ponies in the field and keeps himself out of the way. He loves enrichment, such as snuffle mats and treat balls and a rummage box. He is good with vet and farrier visits, good to catch, groom, worm, and bath.

Health and Training

Health Status:

Nipper is susceptible laminitis due to his equine metabolic syndrome. Recently we have been treating this with metformin and he is on pain relief to maintain his comfort levels with his previous lameness issues. Nipper is on daily medication. He is being rehomed on our Prime Pastures scheme, where we can contribute towards the cost of his veterinary care.

Training Level:

Nipper is not currently in any training. He is good and relaxed when routine care is needed for the vets and farrier. Nipper has been ridden in the past, but due to health issues, has now retired from all ridden work.

Nipper's Past

Nipper came to the Sanctuary as part of our 2018 merger with another charity. We have few details of his life before this.

Nipper's Future

Rehoming Fee: Not applicable. (Prime Pastures scheme).

Nipper needs to have his grazing restricted throughout the year to manage his weight. His ideal home would be with another pony with similar needs and management, with someone experienced with laminitis-prone equines.

Become a Sanctuary at Home Carer

To help you become a Sanctuary at Home Carer, we have a dedicated team managing our scheme and their job is to help find the right equine for you and then support you throughout your rehoming experience.

Our Pathways

We have three rehoming pathways within our Sanctuary at Home scheme. These are:

Prime Pastures

This scheme enables us to rehome horses and ponies with long-term medical conditions that are manageable. You'll be required to help support their condition with regular monitoring and we contribute towards the costs of their veterinary treatments.

Foster

Working alongside us to socialise and train young or rideable horses for future work in our education programmes. You'll help provide a home setting for these horses to mature before returning to the Sanctuary for further assessment. We work closely with you to keep up to date records of their training, achievements, milestones, setbacks and all aspects of their care.

Standard

Means you help provide a sanctuary at home for as many years as you can for a horse or pony from our charity on a loan basis.
