Nia
Rehome Classification: Potential to be ridden
Age: 5
Breed: Welsh
Height: 12hh
Gender: Mare
Colour/Markings: Bay
Personality
Nia is a sweet mare who enjoys spending time grazing in the field and is relaxed when coming into a stable. She enjoys scratches and interactions from her handler. She can live with a large or small herd and has been with other mares and youngsters. She is good for the vet and farrier and good to handle. She can be turned out 24/7 or part stabled if required.
Health and Training
Health Status:
Nia has no known health conditions. Being a smaller native pony, she will need her weight and grazing monitored to avoid becoming overweight.
Training Level:
Nia has been trained using positive reinforcement which will need to be continued. Training for this will be provided by our team. She is now confident being handled, including for the farrier and vet. She has started in hand walks out on the lanes.
Nia's Past
Nia was rescued as part of a large-scale welfare case in 2023 with her foal at foot.
Nia's Future
Rehoming Fee: £350
Nia would be best suited to a quieter yard with a carer who has time and experience with youngsters and can continue her training.
Nia has no medical conditions so could potentially be backed for ridden work, once settled into a new home. Based on her size and weight, Nia would need a small rider with a maximum weight of 6.5 stone.
She has been calm when left alone in a stable or field, so this could be introduced slowly in a new environment.
Nia would need a minimum of two visits – she lives at our Honeysuckle Farm site in Newton Abbot.
Our Rehoming Advisors are available to help every day of the year. We will work to support you and Nia as she settles in her new home and can offer training and advice as needed.
