May

Available

Rehome Classification: Companion

Age: 7

Breed: Bodmin Hill Pony

Height: 11hh

Gender: Mare

Colour/Markings: Bay

Personality
May is full of character and likes to be able to see what is going on in the yard. She can quite often be found with her nose resting on the stable door or even trying to get a step up on the door to see what’s happening. She will happily be groomed and will go for short walks on out quiet country lanes. May is good for the vet and is gaining confidence with her farrier visits which will need to be continued in her new home.

Health and Training

Health Status:

May has had previous colic surgery and has had bouts of colic in recent months. She also has sweet-itch which is controlled by rugging and creams. This will have to be closely monitored and treated in her new home.

Training Level:

May shows signs that she enjoys going for walks in hand. She is currently training to pick her feet up in a calm and relaxed manner.

May's Past

May’s dam was taken in as part of mass drift from moorland in 2016. May was born in a holding centre and came to The Mare and Foal Sanctuary in 2017.

May's Future

Rehoming Fee: £50

A coastal area would be a perfect environment to help with May’s sweet itch.

She does not respect electric fencing so she would need a home where she has good stock fencing or post and rail.

May is still relatively young so would require an experienced handler to help her with her education. Due to her breed, she would need her weight monitoring and grazing restricted.

Become a Sanctuary at Home Carer

To help you become a Sanctuary at Home Carer, we have a dedicated team managing our scheme and their job is to help find the right equine for you and then support you throughout your rehoming experience.

Our Pathways

We have three rehoming pathways within our Sanctuary at Home scheme. These are:

Prime Pastures

This scheme enables us to rehome horses and ponies with long-term medical conditions that are manageable. You'll be required to help support their condition with regular monitoring and we contribute towards the costs of their veterinary treatments.

Foster

Working alongside us to socialise and train young or rideable horses for future work in our education programmes. You'll help provide a home setting for these horses to mature before returning to the Sanctuary for further assessment. We work closely with you to keep up to date records of their training, achievements, milestones, setbacks and all aspects of their care.

Standard

Means you help provide a sanctuary at home for as many years as you can for a horse or pony from our charity on a loan basis.
