Breed: Thoroughbred Cross

Height: 15.2hh

Gender: Gelding

Colour/Markings: Chestnut

Personality
Mason is a lovely, laid‑back gelding with a calm, confident nature, though he can be anxious at times and needs a home that understands this. He’s happiest living with two or more geldings, though he could live with one companion if other horses are nearby. Mason has lived with youngsters and can be playful in the field. He’s easy to catch, respectful of electric fencing and not on restricted grazing. Mason has been rugged in winter and wears a fly mask in summer. With patience and the right home, Mason will make a wonderful companion and riding partner.

Health and Training

Health Status:

Mason is up to date with his routine care, including 12‑monthly dentals and regular farrier visits every eight weeks. He is currently unshod and is very good for the farrier, wearing front hoof boots when hacking or when needed for stony tracks. Mason is currently on one scoop of Pectigus each morning and evening, which helps support him during changes in routine or environment, as these can occasionally unsettle his digestion. He has shown no adverse effects while on this, and once he has settled into his new home, it may be possible to discontinue it with careful monitoring. Overall, Mason is in good health and ready to move to the right home that can continue supporting his needs.

Training Level:

Mason is still developing his ridden education, so he will need a calm, confident and experienced handler who can continue guiding him at a steady, positive pace. He has mainly hacked out in company and will benefit from having another horse to accompany him while he builds his confidence and gradually learns to work more independently. Mason has done a small amount of solo work on site, but new environments and experiences will need to be introduced slowly to help him feel secure. He responds best to patient, consistent handling and clear routines, and he thrives when he is supported with time to process things, rather than rushed. He has been very steady with all traffic he’s met so far, including cyclists, tractors, lorries and motorbikes.

Mason's Past

Mason was born in the Sanctuary after his dam was rescued.

Mason's Future

Rehoming Fee: £1000

Mason’s ideal home would be with a calm, confident and patient person who has experience with younger horses and can continue his ridden education. He’ll need someone who can introduce him to new environments gradually and support him as he builds his independence.

A home where there is someone to hack out with at first would suit him best, as he has mainly ridden in company and will need time before he’s ready to go out alone. Mason thrives in a herd setting and would do well living with two or more geldings, or with one companion as long as there are other horses close by, so he’s never left completely on his own in the stable or field, as he does not cope with being left alone.

A quieter yard, rather than a busy environment, would help him feel settled and secure. With the right companions and a supportive handler, Mason will continue to grow in confidence and make a wonderful partner.

Please note – Mason’s maximum rider weight is 12 stone.

Mason is based at our Coombe Park Sanctuary and will require a minimum of 6 visits.
