Personality
Lotte is a sweet, gentle mare who is easy to care for. She is a quiet girl, relaxed in the herd, who tends to stay close to others while keeping herself to herself.
She appreciates a kind, patient approach and stands calmly and sensibly when head collared. Her soft nature and good manners make her a pleasure to handle and a very rewarding companion.
Health and Training
Health Status:
Lotte has a history of equine metabolic syndrome and laminitis, so she remains at higher risk of future episodes. She is now off medication and her insulin levels have stayed within the recommended range. She has returned to 24/7 turnout, but it is important to monitor her feed and grazing carefully to help keep her healthy. Lotte also needs to stay on a five-week farrier cycle for corrective trimming.
Training Level:
Lotte has been undergoing needle training, as she was previously nervous about injections. She has done very well and has recently had blood taken with no reaction. She will need ongoing, gentle needle training to maintain her confidence. We will provide training and support for her new carers to help continue this work.

Due to Lotte’s history of equine metabolic syndrome (EMS) and laminitis, she is looking for a knowledgeable home that can offer the careful management she needs to stay happy and healthy. She thrives on routine and would suit a grazing set-up with restricted pasture access, ideally alongside other equines with similar dietary needs. She has previously lived with mares, geldings and youngsters.
Lotte would benefit from a home with someone experienced in managing laminitic equines, who understands the importance of weight control, careful grazing and regular monitoring. With the right care in place, she is a content and straightforward mare to look after.
She is well behaved in the stable, settles calmly if left on her own and is respectful of electric fencing, which makes her easy to manage in the right environment. Lotte is a lovely mare who, with appropriate management, has plenty to offer her new home and is sure to make a rewarding companion.
Lotte is based at Honeysuckle Farm in Newton Abbot, Devon, and prospective carers will need to make a minimum of two visits.
