Lanyon

Age: 11

Breed: Bodmin hill pony

Height: 10.2

Gender: Gelding

Lanyon is a gentle little pony who is a pleasure to handle. He is good to walk, enjoys being groomed, picks up his feet and has been quietly and confidently handled by children. He has lived with both mares and geldings.

Health and Training

Health Status:

Lanyon currently has no known health concerns. As a small native type, he will need his grazing carefully managed, and his weight monitored to help keep him healthy.

Training Level:

Lanyon is good to handle and generally easy to manage. He is, however, not confident travelling in a trailer, so he will need to be transported to his new home in a lorry. Required number of visits: a minimum of two. Lanyon is currently living with a Sanctuary at Home carer in the Dartmouth area.

Lanyon's Past

Lanyon arrived with us as part of a multi-agency operation to control equine numbers on Bodmin moor.

Lanyon's Future

Rehoming Fee: £300

We are ideally seeking a companion home for Lanyon, or a quiet home where he could be a lead-rein pony. He has done a small amount of ridden work, mainly on the lanes, and has been led out both alone and in company.

If Lanyon were to go to a ridden home, we’d like this to be somewhere that enjoys gentle hacking and does not plan to travel him to events, as this would not suit him. He is respectful of electric fencing, and his ideal companion would be another equine with similar restricted grazing needs.

Lanyon is currently living with a Sanctuary at Home carer in the Dartmouth area, and any successful applicant must be prepared to travel to meet him.

Based on his size and weight, we would consider a small child rider, with a maximum weight limit of 3.5 stone.

Our Rehoming Advisors are available to help every day of the year. We will work to support you and Lanyon he settles in his new home and can offer training and advice as needed.

Become a Sanctuary at Home Carer

To help you become a Sanctuary at Home Carer, we have a dedicated team managing our scheme and their job is to help find the right equine for you and then support you throughout your rehoming experience.

Our Pathways

We have three rehoming pathways within our Sanctuary at Home scheme. These are:

Prime Pastures

This scheme enables us to rehome horses and ponies with long-term medical conditions that are manageable. You'll be required to help support their condition with regular monitoring and we contribute towards the costs of their veterinary treatments.

Foster

Working alongside us to socialise and train young or rideable horses for future work in our education programmes. You'll help provide a home setting for these horses to mature before returning to the Sanctuary for further assessment. We work closely with you to keep up to date records of their training, achievements, milestones, setbacks and all aspects of their care.

Standard

Means you help provide a sanctuary at home for as many years as you can for a horse or pony from our charity on a loan basis.
