Health and Training

Health Status:

He needs a home where he can live out as much as possible as he has equine asthma. He will need his weight monitoring to prevent obesity and laminitis. Jago needs more regular dental check-ups from a vet so he is being rehomed on our Prime Pastures scheme where we can contribute towards the cost of this.

Training Level:

Jago is generally good to handle but would benefit from someone with experience as he does need reassurance in some situations.

Jago's Past

Jago arrived with us after being part of a multi-agency effort to control population numbers on Bodmin moor. He was young, thin and feral on arrival.

Jago's Future

Rehoming Fee: £0

Rehoming fee: Not applicable. (Prime Pastures Scheme)

Jago’s ideal home would be a quiet one with someone with an interest in positive training methods as he has been progressing well for vet visits. He would like a calm handler who can recognize when he is becoming anxious.

In the paddock, he is friendly in a herd, and he has lived with geldings. He has been good with electric fencing.

Jago does not cope when totally left alone so he will need a home where he will have a constant companion with minimal equines moving around in the yard near him, as he gets unsettled by this. His perfect home with be with other equines that won’t need to leave him to be worked, so another companion or retired equines would be ideal.

Our Rehoming Advisors are available to help every day of the year. We will work to support you and Jago as he settles in his new home and can offer training and advice as needed.

Become a Sanctuary at Home Carer

To help you become a Sanctuary at Home Carer, we have a dedicated team managing our scheme and their job is to help find the right equine for you and then support you throughout your rehoming experience.

Our Pathways

We have three rehoming pathways within our Sanctuary at Home scheme. These are:

Prime Pastures

This scheme enables us to rehome horses and ponies with long-term medical conditions that are manageable. You'll be required to help support their condition with regular monitoring and we contribute towards the costs of their veterinary treatments.

Foster

Working alongside us to socialise and train young or rideable horses for future work in our education programmes. You'll help provide a home setting for these horses to mature before returning to the Sanctuary for further assessment. We work closely with you to keep up to date records of their training, achievements, milestones, setbacks and all aspects of their care.

Standard

Means you help provide a sanctuary at home for as many years as you can for a horse or pony from our charity on a loan basis.
