Personality
Hazel is a lovely mare, who is gentle and relaxed, but may take time to settle. She has lived happily with both mares and geldings in the past.
She respects electric fencing and will settle on her own in a stable, as long as she has food or other enrichment to entertain her. Any time spent alone would need to be increased gradually if this is required.
Hazel stays calm for routine handling and vet visits.
Health and Training
Health Status:
Hazel has sweet itch and needs careful, ongoing management. She will need suitable rugs, lotions and fly masks to help prevent her clinical signs from returning. She can be a little head shy and needs calm, positive handling around her ears. She has previously had discomfort from sweet itch sores in this area and can become ear shy if she feels worried. Hazel has mild hind limb lameness that is not currently medicated but will need regular monitoring. As a smaller pony, she will also need close management of her weight and grazing.
Training Level:
Hazel is in regular training for having her feet handled and will need frequent, consistent handling to continue to build her confidence. She will also need time to get to know her new farrier before she is due a trim so she can form a positive relationship with them.

Hazel needs a kind, quiet home where she has the chance to settle and build a bond with her new carer. She will do best with someone who has time to spend with her, to get to know her and how she likes to be handled and communicated with.
She would thrive with an experienced person who feels confident taking the lead in new or worrying situations, so Hazel can feel safe and supported.
Hazel also needs someone who can dedicate time to managing her sweet itch, as she can become sore without the right care. This includes applying her lotions and keeping her rugs washed and changed regularly.
Her ideal home would be in a breezy, coastal area, although this is not essential.
Required number of visits: minimum of two. Hazel currently lives at our Yelverton site.
