Hattie

Hattie

Available

Rehome Classification: Companion

Age: 15

Breed: Dartmoor Hill Pony

Height: 10.3hh

Gender: Mare

Colour/Markings: Bay

Personality
Hattie is a gentle little pony who is easy to handle in most situations. She is a loveable character and a sociable mare and will happily mix with mares and geldings. She values her independence but needs a steady companion and also enjoys coming in to rest in the crew barns or a stable. Hattie was hand reared, so she is confident around people.

Health and Training

Health Status:

Hattie has equine asthma and will require a dust-free bedding option if stabled, and soaked hay. Hattie has been monitored for Insulin dysregulation, so along with weight management, this will need ongoing monitoring. She is not on any medication. She will need her grazing restricted and her weight monitoring to avoid obesity and laminitis.

Training Level:

Hattie is now looking for a home as a non-working, companion equine. She can go for walks in hand and would enjoy in hand agility and different forms of enrichment. Hattie is currently undergoing maintenance training for injections and worming. Her new carer will receive advice in the positive reinforcement methods we use to ensure these procedures remain calm and safe.

Hattie's Past

Hattie was born in the Sanctuary. Her dam did not have any milk, so she was hand reared.

Hattie's Future

Rehoming Fee: £100

Hattie will need a home with restricted grazing, especially during the summer months. She would thrive with a companion who has similar grazing needs and in a busy yard environment, as she enjoys watching the comings and goings.

Hattie is easy to handle and would suit a carer who is willing to learn and use positive reinforcement training methods.

Our Rehoming Advisors are available to help every day of the year. We will work to support you and Hattie as she settles in her new home and can offer training and advice as needed.

Become a Sanctuary at Home Carer

To help you become a Sanctuary at Home Carer, we have a dedicated team managing our scheme and their job is to help find the right equine for you and then support you throughout your rehoming experience.

Our Pathways

We have three rehoming pathways within our Sanctuary at Home scheme. These are:

Prime Pastures

This scheme enables us to rehome horses and ponies with long-term medical conditions that are manageable. You'll be required to help support their condition with regular monitoring and we contribute towards the costs of their veterinary treatments.

Foster

Working alongside us to socialise and train young or rideable horses for future work in our education programmes. You'll help provide a home setting for these horses to mature before returning to the Sanctuary for further assessment. We work closely with you to keep up to date records of their training, achievements, milestones, setbacks and all aspects of their care.

Standard

Means you help provide a sanctuary at home for as many years as you can for a horse or pony from our charity on a loan basis.
