We are seeking a dynamic individual with extensive equine welfare expertise, exceptional leadership skills, and a passion for making a difference in the lives of horses and ponies.

About the Role

Salary Band: £44,100 (D.2)
Hours: 37.5 per week with flexible working patterns

This is a hybrid role based at Honeysuckle Farm, with a requirement to travel as needed. As the Head of Welfare and Rehoming, you will provide leadership and direction to the Welfare and Rehoming Team, ensuring the highest standards of welfare support, outreach, and rehoming practices. You will manage relationships with stakeholders, oversee operational activities, and contribute strategically as a member of the Senior Management Team.

Please note this role is subject to a DBS check, and you will be required to provide proof of your right to work in the UK.

What You Will Be Doing

Leading the Welfare and Rehoming Team to deliver exceptional welfare support and rehoming outcomes for equines in care.

Ensuring practices align with current animal welfare legislation and equine science, informed by evidence-based approaches.

Managing stakeholder relationships, including government agencies, other sanctuaries, and welfare organisations.

Developing and implementing policies for welfare intervention and rehoming, including the Sanctuary at Home scheme.

Overseeing operational management, including database compliance, budget control, and performance reporting.

Driving team development and fostering a collaborative, supportive culture aligned with the Sanctuary’s values.

What You’ll Bring:

Proven experience in leading equine welfare, rehoming, or rescue operations, preferably in a charity or animal welfare setting.

Strong knowledge of equine welfare legislation, behaviour, and science.

Demonstrable leadership and team management experience in a complex, dynamic environment.

Excellent organisational, decision-making, and communication skills.

A proactive, evidence-based approach to problem-solving and operational excellence.
