We’re excited to share a special update about sponsorship pony Geronimo and his connection with Georgie.
The story so far
Geronimo first arrived in our care in 2018, anxious and struggling with limited vision in his left eye. After his enucleation surgery, we began to see a remarkable transformation, his confidence grew, and he slowly became the gentle, steady pony so many of you have come to know and love.
Over time, Geronimo grew into a calm, steady pony who thrived in his training and supported many people through our therapeutic equine-assisted programmes. All the while, his bond with groom Georgie strengthened. Confident in each other’s care, the two became firm friends.
Some friendships are written in the stars. This November, Geronimo was rehomed through our Sanctuary at Home scheme to live with Georgie and her ponies, Robin and Willis. Georgie is overjoyed: “I just love Geronimo so much, he’s a very special pony. When the opportunity came up for me to rehome him, I was over the moon.”
Geronimo Begins His New Chapter
Geronimo made his move to live with his Horse Care Team member Georgie on the 10th November 2025. After six years at Coombe Park, this was a big change, but Geronimo handled the transition with calm confidence.
He loaded into the trailer and travelled well and arrived at Georgie’s home, which is close to Coombe Park. As soon as he stepped into the field, he was bright, curious, and eager to explore. Georgie said he spent those first moments “trotting around, taking in his new home” with clear excitement.
Geronimo was initially introduced over the fence line to Georgie’s two rehomed ponies from The Mare and Foal Sanctuary, meaning she is already a Sanctuary at Home carer to Robin and Willis. With Robin also having sight in only one eye, the trio share similar grazing needs and routines.
Settling In Beautifully With His New Herd
Just weeks into his new life, Geronimo has settled in brilliantly. The early, over the fence introductions with Robin and Willis quickly developed into comfortable companionship. The three ponies now graze together peacefully and have formed a calm, cohesive herd. Georgie shared that “he seems really, really happy and that makes me very happy!”
Geronimo has adapted easily to his new routines, enjoying the familiar, horse-centred environment and the daily care from someone who knows him inside out.
Although he is now no longer at Coombe Park, Geronimo remains part of our Sponsorship Scheme, and we will continue sharing updates as he enjoys life with Georgie, Robin and Willis.
