Nearly 600 rescued horses and ponies now receive lifelong care at The Mare and Foal Sanctuary. This means they’ll spend the rest of their lives either in one of our peaceful sanctuaries or with a dedicated Sanctuary at Home carer who understands their individual needs.
Around 120 rescued equines are cared for across our four Sanctuary sites in Devon. Living in herds in beautiful open fields, they enjoy an environment that’s as close to natural as possible. These calm, restorative spaces give our horses and ponies the safety and stability they need to recover, grow stronger, and simply be horses again.
None of this would be possible without the generosity of our supporters. Your kindness enables us to rescue equines in greatest need, rehabilitate them with compassion, and provide true sanctuary for life.
While our Sanctuaries aren’t open for drop-in public visits, we’re committed to being transparent about our work. We welcome supporters for a limited number of private guided tours, at small cost of £10 per tour to help fund our work. Tours take place at our Coombe Park Education and Equestrian Centre near Totnes, where a member of our team will share more about our work and introduce you to some of the horses and ponies we care for.
Each one-hour slot is for a group of up to 7 friends or a family group so there is plenty of opportunity to ask about our work and take photos of the horses and ponies you’ll see.
Well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome. Please bear in mind that some of the paths are uneven and can be muddy underfoot if it’s wet.
If you are unable to make the dates currently on offer please email events@mareandfoal.org giving your supporter number and the date(s) you would like to visit and we will be in touch with you.
