Feral Pony Preparation Clinic

Thinking about giving a feral pony a home? This practical and informative workshop has been designed to help you understand exactly what to expect before taking that step.

Hosted by the British Horse Society in partnership with the Mare and Foal Sanctuary, this clinic will explore the unique characteristics, behaviours and needs of feral ponies as they transition from life on the moor into domestic homes.

We’ll cover everything from handling and behaviour to field setup, companionship, feeding, parasite control, hoof care and veterinary planning. You’ll hear real success stories from people who have transformed feral ponies into confident riding or companion ponies, alongside honest discussions about the challenges and responsibilities involved.

The aim is not simply to encourage homing, but to ensure every potential owner has the knowledge, confidence and support to give these remarkable ponies the very best start in their new lives.
