As a vital member of our team, you’ll strive to ensure that all horses and ponies in our various loan schemes receive top-quality care tailored to their individual needs.

About the Role
Salary Band: G.1 £26,481 with access to private health and corporate discounts

This is a hybrid role with a base at Honeysuckle Farm,  Newton Abbot and has core hours of 37.5 per week (plus out of hours on call Rota and occasional overnight stays for up to three nights planned in advance. TOIL provided)

Please note that this role is subject to a Basic DBS check, and you will be required to provide proof of your right to work in the UK.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting our Loan Home carers with empathy and building strong relationships to ensure our equines on various loan schemes receive the best possible care to meet their needs.  Conduct both physical and virtual visits to monitor the welfare of our equines and address potential new homes.
  • Promoting excellent equine care standards by engaging with members of the public and giving non-judgemental advice when required.
  • Respond promptly to members of the public’s concerns regarding equine welfare.  Remain professional and utilise the Sanctuary’s tone of voice and de-escalation techniques to facilitate the best outcome for the concerned equine’s welfare.
  • Safeguarding and enhancing the Sanctuary’s reputation through professional conduct. Delivering outreach education on equine care and welfare, working alongside internal teams and external organisations. You’ll also handle out-of-hours emergency calls on a rotational basis.
  • Collaborating with Police, Trading Standards, and other welfare organisations as needed, and provide evidence at Court Hearings when required. Monitoring local and national equine markets, reporting trends and concerns, and assisting with welfare lifts, including larger multi-agency operations.
  • Keeping detailed and accurate records of all interactions, visits, and communications. Documenting Virtual Loan Home visits with photos and videos and participate in feedback sessions following incidents. Adhering to current Health and Safety measures diligently.
  • Working closely with the Fundraising and Communications team to gather content for campaigns and events. Stay updated on the Sanctuary’s policies to help promote its mission and enhance its reputation.

What You’ll Bring

  • Familiarity with the Welfare Act, Control of Horses Act, and Transportation Act.
  • Proficiency in computer skills (Word, Excel) and managing photographic/video evidence
  • Full clean driving license.
  • Ability or willingness to drive larger vehicles, off-road vehicles, and tow trailers.
  • Staying up-to-date with required training.
  • Ensuring work vehicles are roadworthy and presentable.
